Plan Panel To Keep Day Meetings

City of Spokane plan commissioners quickly squelched a request from the assembly of neighborhood councils to hold meetings at night so working community members could attend more easily.

The plan commission is an all-volunteer board. Many take time away from their own jobs to attend the afternoon meetings.

Al French, neighborhood liaison, brought the proposal to the commission, noting that evening meetings would offer the community better access to planning matters.

Commissioner Stan Stirling said the group frequently holds meetings or visits neighborhoods in the evenings to gather comments on various issues. It recently visited Five Mile Prairie and Moran Prairie.

“I have no problem holding special neighborhood meetings in the evening,” said Stirling.
