Springdale Mayor Faces Suit From Past

From Staff Reports

One of the jobs waiting for Mayor-elect Dan Hite when he takes office is to defend himself and Springdale against a lawsuit by the wife of town Marshal Jerry Taylor.

Lela Taylor seeks unspecified damages for income she lost in 1995 and 1996 during a controversy that prevented her from renting out a mobile home.

Lela Taylor said Hite persuaded fellow Town Council members to order her to move the rental unit 2.3 feet to get it out of a municipal right of way. She claims the action was motivated by Hite’s “political vendetta” against her husband and that right-of-way encroachments by Hite were ignored.

Hite declined to comment.

Jerry Taylor has said he plans to resign before Hite takes office.
