Seven Area Students Given Ewu Scholarships

Seven Spokane-area students received $2,000 Trustee Scholarships from Eastern Washington University.

As freshmen, the students received Academic Honors Scholarships, a precursor to the current financial help.

The students, their parents, high schools and majors are as follows:

Sarah Moen, daughter of Shannon and Dennis Moen, a 1996 graduate of Central Valley High School, is studying elementary education.

Shane Sullivan, son of Lequeta Fifield of Greenacres and Robert Sullivan of Spokane, is a 1996 graduate of Central Valley High School, studying business administration. He is also president of Phi Eta Sigma, a freshman honor society.

Sara Winther, daughter of Melinda Winther of Spokane and Rodney Winther of Ithaca, N.Y., is a 1996 graduate of Lewis and Clark High School, and a sophomore at Eastern.

Jeffrey McMurtery, son of Debbie and Gary McMurtery of Spokane, is a 1996 graduate of Shadle Park, studying music education.

Cindy Morris, daughter of Janice and Jerry Morris, is a 1996 graduate of North Central High School, and is studying marketing. She is vice president of Phi Beta Sigma.

Emily Lowe, daughter of Teresa Hiatt and Randy of Lowe, both of Mead, is a 1996 graduate of Mead High School, studying biochemistry and pre-med. She also participates in University Honors.

Brenda McCarty, daughter of Mary and Dean McCarty of Spokane and a 1996 graduate of Mead High school, is a sophomore.

Matthew Davis graduated last spring from Ball State University in Munci, Ind. He is the son of Greg and Teresa Davis of Spokane.

Michael Westbrock was elected to the Eta Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa at Gustavus Adolpus College in St. Peter, Minn., for academic performance. He is the son of James Westbrock of Spokane.

Joshua Pitts, of Spokane, received a degree in history last spring from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma.

Eric Shafer, Spokane, and Debra Miller, Chewelah, Wash., graduated last June from Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho.

Shafer’s degree was in social science and education. Miller’s degree was in philosophy.

Thirteen Spokane-area students were named to the dean’s list for the spring term at Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho:

Jade Ashley, Eric Shafer, Jaclyn Luhn, Ryan Fievez, Casey Lund, Shayna Lund, Nathan Shafer, Mandy Boorman, Erika McCray and Jessica Menard all of Spokane; Debra Miller, Chewelah; Bryan Berg, Deer Park; and Daniel Getz, Cheney.

Two 1994 graduates of St. George’s School were named to the dean’s list for spring semester at Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster, Pa.:

Kama Alsaker, a business administration major, is the daughter of Anne and Dan Alsaker of Greenacres.

Colin Charbonneau, a business administration major, is the son of Ed and Faris Charbonneau of Spokane.

Katie Kennedy, daughter of Tod and Linda Kennedy, graduated cum laude, with a major in English and elementary education, from Hillsdale College in Michigan.

Kennedy, a 1993 graduate of St. George’s High School, was chosen Outstanding Senior Woman by Hillsdale’s faculty and senior class.
