Smith To Miss Meet

Michelle Smith, the Irish swimmer who won three gold medals at the Atlanta Olympics, is recovering from whiplash from an Oct. 31 car accident and will miss next month’s world championships.

Smith sustained back and neck injuries in the accident near her home in County Kilkenny.

Her inability to regain top form and her poor showing in a meet at Bordeaux, France, on Sunday prompted her withdrawal from the world championships in Perth, Australia.
