Explosives Discovered In Arrested Man’s Car
Sheriff’s deputies found explosives in the back seat of a Smelterville man’s car Tuesday morning after arresting him on an outstanding warrant.
Shoshone County sheriff’s deputies called agents from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms when they discovered several sticks of dynamite, blasting caps and detonator cord about 5 a.m. No one was injured.
Kenneth Dean, 34, was booked into the Shoshone County Jail on a warrant for failing to appear on previous charges. Further charges are pending against Dean, Shoshone County sheriff’s Capt. Spike Angle said.
Deputies were responding to a call from a business on North Division in Pinehurst when they found the explosives. The caller reported a suspicious person and vehicle out front.
The deputy who was dispatched to the business talked with Dean and learned of the warrant for his arrest. He discovered the explosives while checking Dean’s car after arresting him.
The area around the business was closed briefly while other officers and firefighters responded and seized the explosives.
