Margaret (Whitsell) Westberg Moscow, Idaho

Memorial service for Margaret “Marty” (Whitsell) Westberg, 75, is set for 1 p.m. Tuesday at Troy (Idaho) Luthern Church. Short’s Funeral Chapel in Moscow is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Westberg, who was born in Oak Park, Ill., died Wednesday.

She graduated from high school in Pocatello, Idaho at the age of 16, and then from Idaho State University. She became a licensed pharmacist.

Mrs. Westberg worked at a hospital in Brigham City, Utah.

In 1944, she married John Westberg in Pocatello, then moved to Moscow and farmed.

Mrs. Westberg was a member of the Garden Club, Idaho Women for AG, Gritman Hospital Auxiliary and Troy Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Joanne Milot of Moscow and Gail Locke of Red Bluff, Calif.; a son, Wayne Westeberg of Moscow; two sisters, Virginia Levy of San Louis Obispo, Calif., and Eleanor McCoy of North Bonneville, Wash.; two brothers, John Whitsell of Kilgore, Texas, and William Whitsell of Portland; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Troy Lutheran Church or to Latah Health Services.

Nina Merriman Spokane

Service for Nina E. Merriman, 73, is planned for 11 a.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Merriman, who was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario, died Tuesday.

She was a civilian employee for the Department of Defense at Fairchild Air Force Base and worked as a bookkeeper. She retired in 1985.

Mrs. Merriman was a resident of Spokane for 71 years.

Survivors include three sons, Gregory Merriman of Spokane, Howard Merriman Jr. of Post Falls and Dr. Ronald Merriman of Ann Arbor, Mich.; and six grandchildren.

Charles Oak Spokane

Service for Charles Oak, 64, is set for 9 a.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Mr. Oak, who was born in Wayne, Neb., died Friday.

He served in the Air Force from 1956 to 1960.

Mr. Oak earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California at Los Angeles and a master’s in science from California State at Fullerton.

Mr. Oak worked as a salesman for Lederle Pharmaceutical Co. in Los Angeles.

He moved to Spokane in 1983.

Mr. Oak was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish.

Survivors include a daughter, DeAnne Oak, and a sister, Pat Burnett, both of Spokane; and a granddaughter.

Jimmy James Colfax, Wash.

Service for Jimmy J. James, 65, is planned for 2 p.m. today at the Palouse Empire Fairgrounds Community Building in Colfax. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. James, a lifetime Colfax resident, died Tuesday.

He farmed in the Palouse until his retirement in 1994.

Survivors include his wife, Jerry; four daughters, Jackie Ryan of Salt Lake City, Joy James of Spokane, Janise James of Colfax and Jina Jackson of Albuquerque, N.M.; and two sisters, Marilyn Bauer and Jan Williams, both of Spokane.

Lucille Jacobson Spokane

Service for Lucille A. Jacobson, 78, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Farimount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Jacobson, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Tuesday in Escondido, Calif., where she was visiting family.

She was a graduate of North Central High School.

Mrs. Jacobson was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Lutheran Church and the Inland Empire Rock Hound club.

Her husband, Roy Jacobson died in 1996.

Survivors include a daughter, Marlene Rantanen of Fallbrook, Calif.; a sister, Elaine De Arth of Spokane; and two grandsons.

Annabelle ‘Amy’ Frey Spokane

Vigil service for Annabelle M. “Amy” Frey, 84, will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is set for 10 a.m. Monday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Frey, who was born in Windom, Minn., died Tuesday.

She worked in retail sales and had lived in Spokane for 45 years.

Her husband, Francis “Herb” Frey, died in 1971.

Mrs. Frey was a member of the Veterans Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Philomathea, the Eagles Lodge and St. Thomas More Parish.

Survivors include two sons, Bob Frey of Spokane and Gary Frey of Aberdeen, Wash.; two sisters, Dolores Scott of Spokane and Lillian Walz of Paramount, Calif.; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Michael Silletti Spokane

Memorial service for Michael W. Silletti, 51, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. David’s Episcopal Church. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Silletti, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Thursday.

He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and worked as a mortgage banker for Sterling Savings.

Mr. Silletti was a Coast Guard Vietnam veteran.

He was a member of St. David’s Episcopal Church.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Silletti; two sons, Patrick and Steven Silletti, both of Spokane; his parents, Rocco and Norene Silletti of Spokane; three brothers, David and Daniel Silletti, both of Spokane, and Richard Silletti of Wyoming; a sister, Diane Gamby of Spokane; and a grandson.

Helen Ely Spokane

Graveside service for Helen C. Ely, 83, is set for 2 p.m. today at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ely, who was born in Cheney, died Thursday.

She graduated from high school in Rosalia, Wash., and was a homemaker.

She was a 60-year Spokane resident.

Survivors include a son, Robert Ely of Portland; a brother, Lyle Franz of Seattle; and three grandchildren.

Valerie (Gunby) Stewart, D.V.M. Spokane

Memorial service for Valerie Anne (Gunby) Stewart, 38, is set for 11 a.m. Monday at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Family burial will precede the service. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Stewart, who was born in Itazuke Air Force Base, Japan, died Saturday from brain cancer.

She graduated in 1977 from C.R. Russell High School in Great Falls, Mont., and in 1984 from Washington State Veterinary School of Medicine.

Dr. Stewart owned and operated Country Homes Veterinary Clinic for many years. After she sold the clinic, she did relief veterinary work throughout the state.

She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and the Veterinary Medical Association.

Survivors include two sons, Ryan and Brandon Stewart, both of Spokane; a daughter, Jordan Stewart of Spokane; her parents, Jim and Joan Gunby of Spokane; and three sisters, Faith Campbell and Lori Gunby, both of Seattle, and Holly Gunby of Berkeley, Calif.

Freddie Roesler Spokane

Service for Freddie P. Roesler, 62, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Pines Cemetery Mausoleum. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Roesler, who was born in Plevna, Mont., died Wednesday.

He graduated from high school in 1953 in Plevna and attended a telegrapher school in Minneapolis.

He lived in Spokane for 30 years and retired in 1995 from Burlington Northern Railroad, where he was a dispatcher.

Mr. Roesler was a Korean War Army veteran.

Mr. Roesler was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 51.

Survivors include a sister, Vangie Wright of Casper, Wyo.
