Airport Exhibit Displays City’s ‘Age Of Elegance’
Travelers passing through Spokane International Airport this season can glimpse regional history from a century ago at a new exhibition adjacent to the baggage claim area.
“The Age of Elegance: Spokane Celebrates the Arts & Architecture of 1898” gives viewers a visual feast of the decorative arts and building styles of the late 1800s. The exhibit features stained glass, furnishings, photographs, and reproduction wallpapers and carpets depicting turn-of-the-century elegance in the Inland Northwest.
The exhibition runs through late March and is part of the Art at the Airport program. Exhibitions selected for the program are to give visitors a greater understanding of the region’s art, history and culture.
“The Age of Elegance” is a cooperative effort between the Cheney Cowles Museum, Spokane Airport Board, Spokane City and County Historic Preservation Office, Corbin Art Center, and the Spokane Convention and Visitors Bureau.
It is one of the first events associated with the Campbell House Centennial Celebration at the Cheney Cowles Museum.
Throughout 1998, the museum will sponsor several events highlighting the history surrounding the stately 1898 Tudor mansion designed by renowned architect Kirtland K. Cutter.

Kudos
Employees of Dana’s An Aveda Concepts Salon recently donated a day of wages to Anna Ogden Hall.
“We decided to give back to our community for everything it has given to us,” said Pamela Tague, salon owner. “This was a group effort, and since most of our business is women, we chose a center that would help women at the time they need help most.”
The salon, 8617 N. Division, delivered a check for $555 to Ogden Hall, which offers shelter and support to needy women and children.
