First Of 8 Million Seedlings En Route To Forest Areas
The first load of 8 million seedling trees has been shipped for planting in 1998 to create future forests around the state.
The Washington Department of Natural Resources’ Webster Forest Nursery began shipping the tiny trees Tuesday. They will be planted to reseed 21,000 acres of previously logged DNR-managed state trust lands.
The seedlings are shipped back to the same forest zones where they were originally gathered as seed cones. Research has shown that this will create stronger trees adapted to specific climatic and soil conditions.
