Idea For Charitable Gaming Panel Rejected

Legislation to create a new Idaho Charitable Gaming Commission has been rejected by the House State Affairs Committee.

It would have been a stand-alone board covering bingo games, raffles and other events conducted by non-profit organizations.

Last year, the Legislature created the Bingo Advisory Board, which reports to the Lottery Commission on regulations for charitable bingo games.

Rep. Bill Deal, R-Nampa, urged members on Friday to reject legislation to create a new commission. He said the bingo advisory panel appeared to be working well and should be given more time to prove its worth.

Hal Franck, Mountain Home, said the new commission would be self-supporting, financed by fees from the charities who conduct bingo and raffle fund-raisers.
