Obituaries

Marie Reynnells Spokane

Visitation for Marie L. Reynnells, 87, is scheduled from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Service is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. There will be cremation.

Mrs. Reynnells, who died Wednesday, was born in Opportunity.

She graduated from Opportunity High School.

She married Al Reynnells, and they farmed north of Pomeroy, Wash. They also owned an orchard on the Snake River near Central Ferry, Wash.

They had also lived in Newport, Wash., Priest Lake, Idaho, Hawaii and, for the past 15 years, Spokane.

She had also worked as an operator for Pacific Northwest Bell.

Mrs. Reynnells and her husband were both pilots and she had flown solo cross country in a powderpuff derby.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Her husband died in 1992.

Mrs. Reynnells is survived by four nieces, Nancy and Carol Page, both of Spokane, Gretchen Armstrong of Kalama, Wash., and Katrina Pierson of Burlington, Wash.; and a nephew, Wilmar Kohne of Salem, Ore.

Benjamin Pryor Jr. Chewelah, Wash.

Visitation for Benjamin C. Pryor Jr., 82, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Pines Cemetery.

Mr. Pryor, who died Wednesday, was born in Los Angeles.

He lived in Spokane for 49 years and then in Chewelah for the past six years.

He had worked as a logger on the Washington coast before moving to Spokane. He retired from Kaiser Aluminum as a mechanic in 1976 after 30 years. He also operated a farm in Nine Mile Falls while working at Kaiser.

Mr. Pryor was a member of the United Steelworkers of America and the Spokane Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys; two daughters, Marian Frobe and Frances Armstrong, both of Spokane; two brothers, Don Pryor of Marysville, Wash., and Maurice Pryor of Kamiah, Idaho; a sister, Angeline Stiles of Enumclaw, Wash.; five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

James Watkins Spokane

Memorial service for James D. Watkins, 58, will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Pines Cemetery Mausoleum. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Watkins, who was born in Red Cloud, Neb., died Thursday.

He graduated from West Valley High School and attended Eastern Washington University.

He served in the Army in Germany in the 1960s.

Mr. Watkins renovated Corvettes for 15 years and retired in 1989 due to poor health.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1435.

Mr. Watkins is survived by two sons, Donald Watkins of Woodinville, Wash., and Howard Watkins of Lauderhill, Fla.; his mother, Myrl Watkins, and a sister, Judy Clendenen, both of Spokane; and three grandchildren.

Bonny Moss Spokane

Memorial service for Bonny (Swannack) Moss is planned for 2 p.m. Thursday at Spokane Valley United Methodist Church. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Moss, 76, died Saturday.

She was born in Lamont, Wash., and graduated from St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Spokane.

She married Wilfred Moss and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Moss was a member of the Spokane Valley United Methodist Church.

She was a volunteer and provided transportation, checked blood pressures and visited residents of Camlu Retirement Apartments. She also visited sick and house-bound members of Spokane Valley United Methodist Church, and she was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels.

She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Barbara Munyan of Cusick, Wash., and Denise Caldwell of Medical Lake; five sons, Ron Moss of Medical Lake, Norm, Darrel and Ken Moss, all of Spokane, and Lyle Moss of Bellevue, Wash.; a sister, Ruth Wilson of Spokane; a brother, Frank Swannack of Lamont; and 16 grandchildren.

Robert ‘Bob’ Two Hawks Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service and musical jam session tribute for Robert M. Cogswell “Bob” Two Hawks, 44, will be Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 889 in Coeur d’Alene. Yates Funeral Home of Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Two Hawks, who was born in Illinois, died Friday.

He was raised and graduated from high school in Illinois and later spent 10 years on the spiritual “Pow Wow Trail” learning about his Cherokee ancestry.

He moved to Idaho in 1990 and worked as a flute maker, selling his instruments at Native American stores and rendezvous.

He was a member of the Coeur d’Alene Marimba Band for several years and also made marimbas and drums.

Survivors include his wife, Sandy; a son, Tyson Lewis of Coeur d’Alene; his father, Judge Cogswell of Illinois; his mother and stepfather, Mary and Francis Riffey of Illinois; and a sister, Cheryl Parker of Illinois.

Jack Collins Sr. Spokane

Memorial service for Jack Lewis Collins Sr., 34, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Manito First Methodist Church. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Collins, who was also known as Jack Mishler, died last Tuesday from diabetic complications. He was born in Spokane and had worked as an auto mechanic.

He is survived by a son, Jack Collins Jr. of Federal Way, Wash.; a stepson and a stepdaughter, Mark and Angela Park, both of Federal Way, Wash.; his mother, Pamela (Curl) Rigney of Renton, Wash.; his father, Donald Mishler of Post Falls; two sisters, Heather Mishler Johnson of Spokane and Marisa Rowicki of Post Falls; three brothers, David Mishler and Darrell Frick, both of Spokane, and Jason Mishler of Nine Mile Falls; and his grandmother, Donna Curl of Spokane.

James Carney Priest River, Idaho

Service for James P. Carney, 69, will be at 1 p.m. today at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Priest River. Private burial will be at a later date.

Mr. Carney died Saturday.

He was born in New York City.

After graduating from high school, he joined the merchant marines for a year and then served in the Navy until 1950.

In 1978 he married Anna Dilks in Coeur d’Alene.

He worked as a heavy-equipment mechanic in the Local 3 of the International Operating Engineers Union.

Mr. Carney retired, and he and his wife lived in Priest River from 1978 until 1981.

They moved to Seattle and managed an apartment complex there for 10 years and then returned to Priest River.

Mr. Carney was a member of the National Rifle Association.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, James “Gregory” Carney at Fort Lewis, Wash., and Eugene Spry of California; three daughters, Sharon Knicely of Priest River, Anna Marie Bolton of California and Susie Radford of Spokane; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Minnie Schafer Spokane

Vigil service for Minnie B. Schafer, 88, is planned for 7 p.m. today at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Glen Ullin, N.D., Mrs. Schafer died Saturday.

She had lived in Spokane for 62 years and was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church and the Altar Society and was a life member of the Eagles Lodge.

Her husband, Joseph Schafer, died in 1964.

Mrs. Schafer is survived by four sons, Harold and Richard Schafer, both of Spokane, Donald Schafer of Bellevue, Wash., and Lawrence Schafer of Sacramento, Calif.; a daughter, Alice Kuntz of Spokane; a brother, Leonard Hoerner of Seattle; a sister, Gertrude Wurtz of Spokane; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Glenn Paulsen Spokane

Memorial service for Glenn J. Paulsen, 94, will be at noon today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mr. Paulsen, who died Thursday, was born in Oakesdale, Wash.

He had lived in Spokane since 1932 and worked as a cement contractor for more than 40 years.

He was a volunteer for House of Charity and was a member of Cement Finishers and Plasterers Union Local No. 72, Spokane Moose Lodge No. 161 and the Brotherhood of Friends Lodge.

He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Florence Paulsen; a stepdaughter, Joyce Read of Nine Mile Falls; a stepson, Michael Szymczak of Bellevue, Colo.; five stepgrandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Donald Tortorelli Spokane

Service for Donald L. Tortorelli, 62, is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mr. Tortorelli, who died Friday, was a lifetime Spokane resident.

He was a Lewis and Clark High School graduate and worked as a machinist for American/Briggs Machinery for more than 30 years.

He was a member of the American-Italian Club, the Spokane Archery Club and the Couples Dance Club.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Tortorelli; a son, Nick Tortorelli of Spokane; a stepson, David Baum of Spokane; a daughter, Lonnie Tortorelli of Spokane; a stepdaughter, Danna Baum of Spokane; a sister, Patricia Awbery of Spokane; and one granddaughter.

Boyd Angstrom Spokane

Visitation for Boyd R. Angstrom, 75, is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Strate Funeral Home in Wilbur, Wash. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Wilbur Cemetery.

Mr. Angstrom died Saturday.

He was born in Creston, Wash., and graduated from Creston High School.

He was a wheat farmer in the Wilbur-Creston area.

He served in the Army Signal Corps during World War II and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6268 and Eagles Lodge No. 2577.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Elsie Angstrom; a son, Roger Angstrom of Wilbur; a daughter, Sara Wilcox of Seattle; and two brothers, Dean Angstrom of Wilbur and Merle Angstrom of Medical Lake.

Jack Neis Spokane

Service for Jack A. Neis, 68, was Monday at Holy Cross Cemetery Chapel. Burial followed at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Neis, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Wednesday.

He graduated from Gonzaga Preparatory School.

Mr. Neis served in the Navy and returned to Spokane, where he worked as a carpet layer.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

His wife, Donna, died in 1972.

Mr. Neis is survived by four sons, James and Jack Neis Jr., both of Florida, David Neis of Milwaukie, Ore., and William Neis of Spokane; a daughter, Kari Biondini of Eureka, Calif.; a brother, Raymond Neis of Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.; a sister, Phyllis Feagin of Whiteville, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

Edna McGuigan Spokane

Service for Edna L. McGuigan, 82, was Monday at Hennessey Smith Funeral Home. Burial was at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. McGuigan died Thursday.

She was born in Deer Park, Ill., and had lived in Spokane for 25 years.

She had worked in a cafeteria.

Survivors include a son, Billy Hansen of Spokane; four daughters, Marian Temple and Dorothy Tollett, both of Spokane, Betty Janssen of Deer Park and Lorraine Davis of Spokane; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rose Erickson Spokane

Service for Rose F. Erickson, 80, was Monday at Sunset Mausoleum at Fairmount Memorial Park. Burial was at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Erickson died Friday.

She was a lifetime Spokane resident and graduated from Rogers High School.

She was a member of the Sons of Norway and attended Christian Life Center.

Her husband, Vernon Erickson, died in 1993.

She is survived by a son, Larry Erickson of Spokane; a sister, Delores Ross of Spokane; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Ilene Granlund Spokane

Service for Ilene M. Granlund, 67, was Monday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Burial was at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Granlund died Friday.

She was born in Troy, Idaho, and moved to Spokane in 1930.

She attended North Central High School.

Mrs. Granlund lived in Tacoma for 13 years and returned to Spokane in 1995.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Hillyard Senior Center.

Mrs. Granlund is survived by two sons, Edward Wenrick of Chicago and Robert Wenrick of Spokane; four daughters, Linda Nelson of Everett, Susan Teutscher of Spanaway, Wash., and Catherine Lee and Carolyn Wenrick, both of Spokane; two brothers, Clarence and Clinton Granlund, both of Spokane; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Helge Nielsen Visalia, Calif.

Memorial service for H. Helge Nielsen, 83, was held at an earlier date at Chist Lutheran Church in Visalia. Mr. Helge, who was born in Denmark, died Jan. 19.

He moved to North Idaho in 1937 and was a farmer.

He later moved to California.

Survivors include his wife, Gudrun, of Visalia; brother, Vernon Nielsen of Spokane; and two sisters, Eva Watson of Coeur d’Alene and Betty Claflin of Hayden, Idaho.

Alice McCreight Spokane

Memorial service for Alice L. McCreight will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Heritage Funeral Home.

Mrs. McCreight, who died Thursday, was born in Minneapolis.

She attended the Chicago Art Institute for one year and married Glenn McCreight in Chicago in 1950.

She had lived in Spokane for more than 40 years and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband; and a daughter, Helen Hale of Australia.
