Nic Teams Move Up A Notch
North Idaho College’s basketball teams each moved up one notch in the latest polls while the Cardinal wrestlers remained No. 2 behind Lassen College.
NIC’s men basketball team (18-2 overall) stands at No. 12 after sweeping Snow and Dixie last week. The Cardinals visit Treasure Valley and rival College of Southern Idaho this week. NIC is tied for first place in the Scenic West Conference at 9-2 with No. 17 Eastern Utah (20-3).
Guard Andre McKanstry is expected to rejoin the Cardinals Wednesday. He had returned home to Alabama for his grandmother’s funeral.
The NIC women (19-2), rated No. 16, took over first place in the conference at 9-2 when Ricks (8-3) lost to Snow. No other SWAC teams are ranked.
The wrestling team has a home match against Central Washington University Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Women’s basketball
Andrea Sherer scored 13 points as Whitworth (10-9, 6-5 NCIC) beat Whitman (4-15, 1-10) 73-59 in Walla Walla.
Jen Tissue and Sherri Northington added 12 points apiece for Whitworth, which led by 15 at halftime.
Whitman, led by Amanda Bradford’s 20 points and 13 rebounds, twice drew within 11 points in the second half.
Whitworth plays at home against George Fox on Saturday.
