Well, She’s Not Afraid To Face Up To The Bare Facts
Who can turn the world on with her smile? It just might be Tea Leoni, according to television veteran Mary Tyler Moore.
Moore, who tonight makes her debut as Leoni’s mother on NBC’s “The Naked Truth,” tells Entertainment Weekly that the 30-year-old actress is “gifted beyond everybody of her age that I’ve seen before” and has the potential to be the “perfect sitcom star.”
But Leoni worries that her show, formerly on ABC, may be too similar to “Suddenly Susan,” the Brooke Shields sitcom it temporarily replaced in NBC’s schedule.
“She also plays a 30-year-old who has lost her way, who works at a magazine,” Leoni said. “How many semi-lost stupid white chicks can you have on one network?”
Loose talk
Actor-comedian Harry Shearer, on O.J. Simpson (in The New Yorker): “He led a life without any meaning or passion. The goalline stand was that this man was too shallow to be a killer. He reminds me of a lot of people in show business.”
Something about him sort of reminds us of O.J.
Rip Torn turns 66 today.
He might as well enjoy his dough while he can
In case you hadn’t heard, following Tuesday’s jury verdict, O.J. Simpson stopped at a Brentwood Baskin-Robbins to buy chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream for his 11-year-old daughter, Sydney - the same Baskin-Robbins flavor police found melting in Nicole Brown Simpson’s condo following her murder.
Or maybe it was just her biological alarm clock
Nicole’s best friend, 38-year-old Faye Resnick, appears au naturel in a photo spread in the March issue of Playboy. “I did a lot of soul-searching,” she says of her decision to pose nude, adding: “I had lost my sense of joy. It was part of my reawakening.”
In other words, Playgirl is giving him short shrift
A spokesman for actor Antonio Banderas says an alleged nude shot of him published in Playgirl, taken off the Internet, is a phony. His wife, actress Melanie Griffith, adds that Banderas “is much manlier.”
The mirror knows who’s the Farrah of them all
Former “Charlie’s Angel” Farrah Fawcett, who turned 50 on Sunday, is putting together a project for Playboy Home Video which will apparently feature her in the buff. A casting call went out for a Farrah look-alike to play her mirror image in the video, with nudity required.
Guess she’s doing some soul-searching instead
Madonna, meanwhile, seems to have acquired newfound modesty as a mom. The New York Observer reports that she recently took several art works out of her Manhattan apartment and put them into storage, including a nearly life-size photo of her “naked and performing what seems to be a kind of self-exam not suitable for general audiences.”
