Q. Did you ever find out why perfume seems to last longer on brunettes than on blondes?

A. One theory is the usually drier skin of fair-haired people more swiftly absorbs fragrances.

Never can you escape status, evidently. It exists, too, in retirement homes, where all are equal in theory but where, in fact, each resident winds up at some level of prestige. Best of health tends to put you high on the scale. Next comes your ability to socialize. Third, how often your children come to see you. The upper crust in retirement homes are those most frequently visited by their offspring.

Q. Does the moon have a dawn and dusk?

A. It does, but they’re unspectacular and rather immediate. Without atmosphere, the moon gets no colorful cloud effects, no pink glows, no crimson streaks.
