Boston Celtics guard Dana Barros will be out at least two months after undergoing ankle surgery. The surgery involved the removal of bone spurs from his left ankle.

Arizona junior guard Miles Simon and USC senior guard/ forward Stais Boseman share Pacific-10 men’s basketball player of the week honors.

California football coach Tom Holmoe named his offensive and defensive coordinators. Doug Cosbie, who spent 10 years as a receiver with the Dallas Cowboys, was selected offensive coordinator. Lyle Setencich was selected defensive coordinator. He got much of the credit for creating the defense at Arizona State last season as the Sun Devils went 11-1 and earned a berth in the Rose Bowl.
