The Concorde: Cheaper Than A Speeding Bullet

Associated Press

Can you dial the phone faster than a speeding Concorde?

If you can, you might be able to snag one of 100 round-trip tickets on the British Airways Concorde flight from London to New York that are being offered at a special fare of only 10 pounds each, about $16.

The airline is making the fare available for only 10 seats per flight for 10 days. The first leg of the trip must originate in London.

The seats will go to the first callers to ring the British Airways sales office in London, starting Tuesday at 5 p.m. EST. Callers are limited to a maximum of two seats each, and must use the return portion by March 20.

The usual cost of a round-trip Concorde flight is 5,400 pounds, about $8,800. A promotional group is currently offering once-in-a-lifetime London to Spokane tickets on the Concorde for $5,895.

The $16 fare is being offered to celebrate a decade of privatization on the the formerly government-owned British carrier.
