Agreement Averts Battle Over Gma

Associated Press

The expected battle over Washington’s growth-management land-use law apparently has been settled without a shot being fired.

Republican lawmakers and Democratic Gov. Gary Locke on Tuesday announced their truce, agreeing to abide by a citizen commission’s plan to trim the powers of state land-use boards, while keeping state mandates that cities and counties extensively plan for future growth.

The pact apparently paves the way for a consensus bill that can clear the GOP-controlled Legislature and pass muster with the governor.
