Detectives Kill Dog During Drug Search

From Staff And Wire Reports

Undercover Spokane detectives shot and killed a German shepherd dog that attacked them during a drug raid Thursday.

The dog was inside a house at 2618 E. Fourth, where detectives served a search warrant about 9 p.m. It bit one officer badly enough that he required medical attention at a local hospital, police said.

Four people were arrested after detectives found crack cocaine inside the house.

Arrested were Mary K. Norman, 33; James L. Norman, 38; Curtis R. Jones, 18; and Pete Mendez, also 18.

They each were booked into the county jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance. Mary Norman also was charged with possession with intent to deliver.

Police said it’s not unusual for drug dealers to use vicious dogs to protect their houses.
