No New Hostage Talks Scheduled

Associated Press

Mediators trying to resolve Peru’s hostage crisis indicated Saturday talks may have bogged down.

After the meeting Saturday between the government and leftist rebels holding 72 men hostage at the Japanese ambassador’s house, mediators didn’t announce when another session would be held.

Canadian Ambassador Anthony Vincent said the parties agreed “to elaborate a proposal which will facilitate the continuation of the preliminary conversations.”
