Graf Opens Door For Hingis
Tennis star Steffi Graf, recovering from an injured knee, said she will not play in the Federation Cup and tournaments at Indian Wells, Calif., and Key Biscayne, Fla., next month.
The news means Martina Hingis, 16, who has won four tournaments in a row, including the Australian Open, could well take over as the world’s top-ranked tennis player next month.
At Oklahoma City, Pam Shriver’s 19-year singles career ended with a hard-fought 7-5, 7-6 (7-1) quarterfinal loss to fourth-seeded Lisa Raymond in the IGA Classic.
