Sandpoint Man Says He Swapped Truck Last Year

Associated Press

The registered owner of a Chevrolet Suburban involved in a shootout between reputed Aryan Nations members and Ohio Highway Patrol officers said he has not owned the vehicle for more than six months.

Jacob Myron Settle said in an interview with the Bonner County Daily Bee that he swapped the rig with the parents of shootout suspects Chevie and Cheyne Kehoe for a pickup truck last summer.

Settle, 39, met with Sandpoint police, Bonner County detectives and FBI agents Friday.

“We just found out about it today,” he said after the meeting.

“I heard it on (Spokane television station) Q6 News, then this morning, we called Q6 because we couldn’t hear it very well and they told us what was going on,” he said. “The first thing I want to do is clear my name.”

Settle was not aware that there was a video of the shootout.

Settle’s name was dragged into the national spotlight earlier this week after the Suburban was repeatedly shown on news programs across the country.

Police said there were no warrants for Settle, but the FBI and Ohio police did want to talk to him.
