80 Held In Protest Of Neo-Nazi Violence

Compiled From Wire Services

Police detained 80 leftists who pelted them with stones and bottles during a protest against neo-Nazi violence, officials said Sunday.

Some 2,000 people marched Saturday to protest the death of a youth who was savagely knifed and kicked in the head two weeks ago at a streetcar stop after straying into right-winger turf in this eastern German town.

Police say a 17-year-old male has confessed.

When 100 leftist marchers tried to storm a neo-Nazi club, truncheon-wielding police blocked their way, setting off the clashes that lasted until early Sunday.
