Becker Out With Injury
Tue., Feb. 25, 1997
Boris Becker was out of the tournament without playing a single game, and Wimbledon champion Richard Krajicek went out following an exhausting battle of 36 games against Spaniard Sergi Bruguera.
Bruguera, who is unseeded, produced the first big upset in the $815,000 Italian Indoors by downing Krajicek, the No. 2 seed, 4-6, 7-6, 7-6 at Assago Forum.
Becker pulled out, blaming continuing wrist pains.
