Musicians’ Strike Settled In Seattle

Associated Press

Union musicians at the 5th Avenue Theater signed a new contract Wednesday, ending a two-week strike that delayed and disrupted road-company performances of the Broadway musical “Beauty and the Beast.”

Members of American Federation of Musicians Local 76-493 will be back on the job Friday, officials of the union and the non-profit theater said at a joint news conference.

Neither side would disclose the details of the new three-year pact, on the advice of the federal mediator who helped resolve the dispute. Musicians got an increase in pay and benefits while management received unspecified concessions.

And neither side was claiming victory.

“There are no winners here. There are only losers,” said Frank Young, the theater’s executive director.
