Vanna To Her Producers: You Do Light Up My Life

Compiled By Staff Writer Dan Web

Technology truly can make life better. Just ask Vanna White.

The glamorous letter-turner on the quiz show “Wheel of Fortune” will no longer be required to physically turn slots on the giant puzzle board.

Instead, she’ll just flip a light switch.

What happens then? The letters that contestants have chosen will be bathed in light.

The development thrilled White, who is used to showing off her shapely, 40-year-old body, but apparently not to speechlessness.

“The new puzzle board was designed especially for me,” said White. “I’ve always felt that I have the most fun job on television. Now, it’s going to be even better.”

Loose talk

Country star Wynonna on living large and loving it (in a Prodigy cyberchat): “I’ve been thin and cranky. It ain’t worth it.”

No, no, we refuse to make a crass marriage joke!

Elizabeth Taylor turns 65 today.

Ah, but is anyone beautiful enough to replace Grace Kelly?

Discussions are said to be under way about remaking “Rear Window,” the Alfred Hitchcock film about a wheelchair-bound man who witnesses a murder. It would star Christopher Reeve, a quadriplegic since a 1995 horseback-riding accident.

Sounds like he needs to consult with the Soup Nazi

True to his “Men Behaving Badly” character, comedy actor Rob Schneider says, “I’ll put our best against Seinfeld’s any time. That’s a threat I’m confident (Jerry) Seinfeld doesn’t take seriously.”

And just like that, flash!, she’s a bad girl

Despite being married for a long time to rock guitarist Edward Van Halen, Valerie Bertinelli still thinks of herself as a nice person. “I have no idea why I did this,” she told People magazine, referring to her recently pierced navel. “I’ve been such a good girl for so long. I can pierce my navel and look like a bad girl, but without the hassle of actually being bad.”

You can paint wonders with this rainbow coalition

So who are Hollywood’s most important people under the age of 40? According to Los Angeles magazine, the list includes actors Sandra Bullock, George Clooney, Claire Danes, Leonardo DiCaprio, Matthew McConaughey, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jada Pinkett, Brad Pitt, Will Smith and Kate Winslet. “What we were looking for was talent that has not yet reached its full potential and promises to define the next generation of actors,” writers Nancy Griffin and Holly Sorensen explained.

And it’s a little hard to do that in Alice Springs

So why is Australian actress Toni Collette (“Muriel’s Wedding”) planning to move to Europe? “I just want to be able to be 24 and drink beer in Germany and eat spaghetti in Italy and meet French men and kiss them,” she told Michael Musto of the Village Voice.
