Rypien, Rams Talking Contract

The St. Louis Rams and Mark Rypien are moving closer to a reunion.

The Rams have offered Rypien a contract, said Ken Staninger, Rypien’s Missoula-based agent.

“We’re in the process of responding,” Staninger said. “We’re starting to hone in to see if we can get something done. Obviously, we have some work left.”

Staninger wouldn’t reveal terms of the offer, but said, “we’re certainly a lot closer than we were last year.”

Rypien and St. Louis couldn’t agree on contract terms before the 1996 season and Rypien played for Philadelphia.

Staninger said New Orleans, Seattle and Minnesota also have inquired about the veteran quarterback, a former Shadle Park High School and Washington State University player.
