Brown Reportedly To Retire

Compiled From Wire Services

Dale Brown, the winningest coach in LSU history and the second-winningest men’s basketball coach in the Southeastern Conference, is going to retire at the end of the season, according to WWL-TV.

The station, citing unnamed sources, said Brown will announce his retirement today. The school has scheduled a news conference in Baton Rouge to make a major announcement about the basketball program. LSU officials were unavailable for comment Wednesday night, but there has been speculation that Brown is ready to step aside following the season.

Brown, 61, is in his 25th season at LSU, where he took over a struggling program and built it into a national power that has gone to the NCAA Final Four twice, in 1981 and 1986.

The Tigers have gone 35-48 over their last three seasons and have failed to finish above fifth place in the SEC West.
