Israeli Army Reports Rocket Attack
A rocket launched from southern Lebanon landed in Israel Wednesday, the Israeli army reported, causing no casualties but raising tensions along Israel’s northern border.
The rocket was only the second attack into northern Israel since a large Israeli operation inside Lebanon last April, which ended with an agreement barring Israel and the Hezbollah guerrillas in southern Lebanon from firing on each other’s civilian populations.
Hezbollah, or the Party of God, which is usually quick to claim responsibility for such attacks, denied that it was behind Wednesday’s, just as it denied it was behind the last one. Speculation then was that the Islamic Holy War, a militant Islamic group, had launched the attack.
Israel retaliated with air raids against Hezbollah targets, but there was no immediate indication whether Israel would take further measures.
