Blackhawks Lay First Loss On Bantams

Defense and rebounding figured to be the deciding factors in Friday night’s early season Frontier League boys’ basketball showdown between previous unbeatens Clarkston and Cheney.

And on this night, Cheney was better in both areas en route to tripping the visiting Bantams 47-39.

The Blackhawks limited Clarkston to 11 first-half points and outrebounded the taller Bantams 42-25 in raising their record to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in league.

Paul Malisani scored 20 points for Cheney. Adam Johnson led Clarkston (6-1, 0-1) with 14.

Ryan Harms scored 16 points and four other Bulldogs scored in double figures as Pullman (6-2) opened its league schedule by routing the visiting Knights.
