Grenade In Campfire Explodes, Killing Kids
Four children from the same family were killed and three others injured when a grenade exploded in a campfire in the central jungle, police said Friday.
The accident occurred Wednesday in the community of Pampa de Algodan in the Chanchamayo Valley, about 135 miles east of the capital of Lima, police said.
Police said the children had built a campfire and were throwing things into it when apparently one tossed the grenade into the flames.
Three boys, ages 1, 4 and 9, and a girl age 10 were killed. Two girls ages 2 and 5 and a boy age 3 were injured and are in serious condition.
