Booze Banned
National forests
The Forest Service has banned booze at three waterfall areas and a popular off-road vehicle park in the Cleveland National Forest of California to prevent visitors from hurting themselves and trashing the wilderness.
Other national forests in Southern California have enacted similar orders.
Visitors caught imbibing within a half-mile of the popular falls could face fines and jail time. The same goes for anyone caught taking nips within 100 yards of all forest trailheads.
The falls attract large numbers of people who drink in the hot summer weather and jump off the cliffs. Vandalism, broken glass and littering is rampant, officials say.
