Dear Heloise: We have two female cats. One is 4 years old and the other is 3-1/2.

When they want to let us know they are hungry, especially in the middle of the night, one will go in the bathroom and open a cupboard door slightly and let it slam shut over and over until we wake up. This makes a lot of noise, especially at 4 a.m. The older cat came up with this trick and a few months later the other cat copied him. - Paul and Rita, New Brunswick, Canada
