M’S Face Another Hurdle

Compiled From Wire Services

A group has filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court to try to stop King County from issuing $336 million in bonds to pay for a new ballpark for the Seattle Mariners.

The lawsuit was filed Friday by Citizens for More Important Things, which is conducting a petition drive for an initiative to require a public vote before the county issues bonds for more than $50 million for any public facilities.

“We believe there’s been a pattern of activity on the part of elected officials … to effectively preclude the voters from their rights at the ballot box,” said campaign coordinator Chris Van Dyk, a Seattle stockbroker.
