Tigercats Knock Off Vikings

Boys basketball

LaCrosse-Washtucna won the first of what could be four Southeast B encounters with Garfield-Palouse Saturday, knocking the host Vikings from the unbeaten ranks with a 55-50 Whitman County League win.

Clint Ledbetter scored 24 points and Troy Nealey 23 for the Tigercats (10-2, 2-0), who beat Gar-Pal in last year’s league tournament but lost to the Vikings in the District 9 title game.

Gar-Pal (10-1, 1-1) had Logan Coles and Jeremy Fox foul out and nearly lost two other starters to fouls. Coles’ nine rebounds led a 31-27 Gar-Pal edge.

Bob Stoner made 9 of 10 field goals in scoring 22, and Tyson Curtis scored four points in overtime as the Bulldogs (1-10, 1-4) shocked the visiting Eagles (7-3, 4-1) and handed coach Bob Bafus his 598th career win.

Stoner also had 11 rebounds and Brian Kehne five assists for Colfax, which had dropped 11 straight. Lakeside’s Billy Bender, who scored 25, forced OT with two late free throws
