Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: When my latticed laundry basket became so broken (the lattices) that it was ready to be trashed I cut the top off, leaving one row of lattice on the top.

I put it on our patio for a bird pool for the little finches to use for bathing and drinking. This pool also is used by squirrels and rabbits for drinking. Dogs and cats “at large” come for drinks. - M.G. Ross, Circleville, Ohio

Your hint is double duty - recycling and an animal helper. Since we’re having a drought here in south Texas many of us are putting out containers of water for the wildlife and birds. Thanks for writing in. - Heloise

Dear Heloise: Another good use for fronts of old Christmas cards: Put on top of a wrapped package. Tape or tie on with ribbon. Really neat and easy. - Winnie Rachel, Maud, Texas
