Bishop Will Address Legislative Conference
“Beyond Rhetoric: A Call to Charity and Justice” will be discussed by the Right Rev. Jeffrey Terry, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Spokane, when he speaks at the Eastern Washington Legislative Conference.
The conference will be Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 10th and Grand Boulevard.
The conference begins at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 31 with legislative directors Kathleen Russell and Danielle Welliever presenting “Organizing for Faith-Based Advocacy” and “The Catholic Legislative Agenda: A Consistent Ethic of Life” by Ned Dolejsi and Sharon Park.
The Feb. 1 lineup, which begins at 8:30 a.m., includes Bishop Terry’s address and a review of “The Church’s Legislative Agenda.”
Afternoon workshops, from 1 to 3 p.m., will feature experts speaking on welfare reform, health care, affordable housing, immigrant and refugee justice, civility in the political arena, children and youth education and justice issues, and peace, justice and the integrity of creation.
Registration is $18, which includes lunch. Group rates and scholarships are available upon request. Child care will be available if requested in advance.

MLK celebration planned
The community is invited to attend the annual Martin Luther King celebration Sunday at 6 p.m. at Dishman First Baptist Church, 315 N. Argonne Road.
The Rev. L.D. Williams of Mount Olive Baptist Church will be the keynote speaker. Choirs from Mount Olive and the Spokane Korean Baptist Mission will perform. Free child care will be provided for children under 4. For more information, call Dishman First Baptist at 926-0575.
Course will be on marriage
Dishman First Baptist Church will offer a four-week video course, “Making the Most of Your Marriage,” beginning Feb. 2.
The series features John Maxwell, who will discuss the ingredients of a solid marriage, how to fight fairly, and the top 10 marriage killers and builders.
The class will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. each Sunday through Feb. 26. Cost of materials is $3. To register, call the church office at 926-0575.
