Tennessee Blasts Vandy In Overtime

Laurie Milligan scored 10 of her 20 points in overtime Sunday as No. 9 Tennessee edged No. 7 Vanderbilt 92-79 in Nashville, Tenn., continuing the Lady Vols’ dominance over their intrastate rival.

Tennessee (13-6, 2-2 Southeastern Conference) hasn’t lost to Vanderbilt (12-4, 3-1) in Memorial Gym since the 1990-91 season and leads the series 25-4. The Commodores haven’t beaten Tennessee in Nashville during coach Jim Foster’s six seasons.

But the Lady Vols struggled against Vanderbilt’s defense all game. In overtime, Milligan, who was 10-of-10 at the line, broke a 71-71 tie with a pair of free throws and Tennessee never trailed again.

Tiffani Johnson led the Lady Vols with 24 points. Chamique Holdsclaw and Abby Conklin, playing with a broken toe on her left foot, each added 14.

Vanderbilt limited Holdsclaw, the SEC’s leading scorer avering 20.7 points, to just two points in the first half.

At Ruston, La., Alisa Burras had 20 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Lady Techsters to a win over the Hilltoppers in a Sun Belt Conference game.

It was the first game for Tech (15-2, 3-1) since it was upset last week by New Orleans. Western dropped to 11-5 and 3-1.
