‘Boz’ Ready For Action In Fox Drama

John Levesque Seattle Post-Intelligencer

Brian Bosworth begins shooting this week in Miami’s hip, hot and happening South Beach district, but he won’t exactly be filming promo spots for the chamber of commerce.

For “Lawless,” his new action/ adventure drama on Fox that will probably debut in March, the former Seattle Seahawks linebacker and his producers picked South Beach after whittling down the choices to Hawaii and Florida. Working in the islands would have been a nice perk, Bosworth admitted, but he wanted “Lawless” to be authentic.

“People go to Hawaii to smoke dope and chill,” Bosworth said. “People go to South Beach to smoke crack and kill.”

Case closed.

It’s not known if either locale will be revising its travel brochure, but we can assume “The Boz” won’t be the official spokesperson in either case.

It’s OK, though. Bosworth, who starred in the feature film “Stone Cold” and the cable movies “One Man’s Justice” and “Blackout,” is going to be plenty busy dispensing a sort of vigilante justice in his new series. He plays John Lawless, a former Special Forces operative who leaves the service disillusioned and goes into business for himself. Lawless will be the sort of guy you’d take your problems to when the police don’t seem to be the prudent choice.

Look for lots of action but not a lot of blood. Executive producer Frank Lupo (“The A-Team,” “Hunter”) said the show, which is aiming for an 8 p.m. time slot, will get “creative” in the ways it takes down the bad guys.

As for Bosworth, he’d like audiences to remember that Brian Bosworth and The Boz are different people.

“A lot of people think the attitude and the character of The Boz are really the way I am,” Bosworth said. “Most of my close friends, the people that I do let into my life, know that I do have another much softer side.”
