Late Oeljen Basket Lifts Lc To Win

Carlin Oeljen hit a 12-footer from the right side with 7 seconds left to lift Lewis and Clark to a 49-48 victory at Rogers in Greater Spokane League girls basketball Friday night.

The Tigers scored the last four points in the game for the win, aided by a late Rogers turnover. The Pirates never got off a final shot.

LC (5-8, 3-6) ended a five-game losing streak despite missing all 11 of its foul shots. Becki Huddle scored 20 for the Tigers, the sixth time she has scored at least 20 this year, and had six rebounds.

Jaime Christensen had 13 points for Rogers (6-7, 4-5) and Jill Hatch had a career-high 12 points and eight rebounds. The Pirates only made 17 of 53 shots.

Holly Turner scored 13 of her 20 points in the first quarter to lead the Panthers (11-2, 8-1) over the Titans (3-10, 2-7) at the Arena.

It’s the third time in four games Turner scored at least 20 points for fifth-ranked Mead.

The Highlanders (6-7, 3-6) outscored the Indians (2-11, 0-9) 28-15 in the second half to win the Groovy Shoes game at the Arena.

NC, however, won the Groovy Shoes spirit competition for the fourth time in seven years.

Slavica Blagojevic pulled down seven rebounds for the Highlanders. Alice Stearns scored seven points and grabbed nine boards for NC, all in the second half.

All five starters scored in double figures as the seventh-ranked Bears (11-3, 8-1) broke away from the visiting Saxons (7-5, 5-4) in the middle quarters.

Crystal Lee led CV with 22 points, hitting 6 of 9 shots and 10 of 11 free throws. Amy George had 17 for Ferris.

The teams combined for 40 3-point attempts, making 13.
