Bill Cosby Admits Having Affair With Extortion Suspect’s Mother
With the investigation of his son’s murder continuing Monday, Bill Cosby acknowledged he once had a “rendezvous” with the mother of a 22-year-old woman who claims to be his illegitimate daughter. But Cosby insisted he is not the woman’s father.
“The mother told me - the woman that I had a rendezvous with - told me I am the father,” Cosby said in an interview with CBS’ Dan Rather that was taped Sunday and televised Monday.
While referring to the “rendezvous” he once had with Autumn Jackson’s mother, Shawn Thompson, Cosby said he was sure he was not Jackson’s father because her birth certificate lists someone else.
When Rather asked Cosby whether he denies Jackson’s claims, the entertainer was emphatic.
“On the birth certificate, it’s not my name. I had not spoken to the mother during her pregnancy nor her delivery nor some 14 months until we finally spoke.”
But in a portion airing Sunday on “60 Minutes,” Rather asked if there was a possibility Cosby could be the father.
“There is a possibility,” Cosby said in a transcript. “If you said, ‘Did you make love to the woman?’ the answer is yes. ‘Are you the father?’ No.”
Cosby, whose son, Ennis, was slain 12 days ago, vowed to go on with his life as a parent and an entertainer despite his loss, and he voiced what he termed his wife’s frustration that no murder suspects had been found.
Cosby said the horror of losing his son had affected him in unexpected ways. “I have always imagined, if somebody killed one of my kids, I mean, I would go get five .357 Magnums,” the entertainer said.
“But … then you start to think about the person that you love, who is gone. And then that part of them comes to you and says, ‘Hey Dad, you have to go back to work, man. You know people want to laugh. You have to go back to work.”’
The disclosure by the comedian/ actor that he knew Jackson’s mother added another dimension to the bizarre events that are unfolding and the tremendous amount of public attention they have received.
Jackson was released on $250,000 bond Monday night from the New York City jail where she has been held since her arrest nine days ago on federal charges she tried to extort $40 million from Bill Cosby, 59.
Authorities say that on Jan. 16, the day Ennis Cosby was killed while changing a flat tire in Los Angeles, Jackson and a friend, Jose Medina, 51, sent a fax to Bill Cosby’s representatives threatening to sell to a supermarket tabloid her story claiming to be his illegitimate daughter.
Cosby and his wife, Camille, have been married for more than 30 years, and have four daughters.
