Gertrude A. (Hoerner) Wurtz, Spokane, is 100 years old today.

Mrs. Wurtz, born in Morton County, N.D., has lived in the Inland Northwest for 69 years, the past three at the Beverly Health & Rehabilitation Center, 9827 N. Nevada.

She and John Wurtz were married 45 years. He died in 1964. Mrs. Wurtz was a homemaker. She was also active with the Democratic Party, and with the United Service Organization, from 1958 to 1965.

The couple had five children: Ann Gray, Burley, Wash.; Agnes Koch, Spokane; Adam Wurtz, Yakima; Veronica Bodner, Dequesne, Pa.; and Ted Wurtz, Port Ludlow, Wash.

Mrs. Wurtz has 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She attributes her longevity to “hard work on the farm and never cheating anyone.”
