Nordic skiing

The 19th-annual Langlauf, a 10K citizens race at Mount Spokane, is all set after Shady Way Trail was cleared of trees. Late registration for this Spokane classic is $20, either today at Mountain Gear from 4:30 to 7 p.m. or Sunday morning from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Over 30 miles of groomed and tracked Nordic trails await in the shadows of Mt. Bachelor’s volcanic cone. Info: (503) 382-2607.

Snowmobiling

Snowmobiling at Priest Lake is “the best it’s been for years,” according to the folks at Elkin’s Resort. Even clearcut areas that normally don’t get enough coverage to mask stumps are buried.

North and South Baldy and Mount Spokane are groomed and conditions are good. County groomers are still encouraging riders to bring along a chainsaw to their favorite spots - downed trees should be cut at least 12 feet wide to make room for the groomers.

Watch for logging on Browns Lake road, which is no longer being groomed.

The sled-dog race scheduled for Friday and Saturday, a staple at Priest Lake for over 20 years, has been cancelled. Organizers couldn’t drum up enough money to clear the parking lot of snow.
