Francine Cousteau Will Succeed Husband

Compiled From Wire Services

Jacques Cousteau’s wife will take over as head of his foundation and oversee projects started by the late undersea explorer, the Cousteau Society said Tuesday.

Francine Cousteau’s appointment as president of the society came nearly a week her husband’s death and a day after thousands of mourners crowded into Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris and lined the rainy streets for a memorial service.

The primary mission of the Cousteau Society will remain the exploration, monitoring and defense of the world’s waters, the society said.
