Stinson Stings Los Angeles With 19 Points

Andrea Stinson scored 19 points and the Charlotte Sting mounted a 16-4 run in the final 5:46 for a 78-66 win over the Los Angeles Sparks on Saturday at Charlotte, N.C.

Charlotte (2-3) shot a season-high 53.4 percent (31 of 58) from the floor, including 67 percent (16 of 24) in the second half. Stinson led four double-figure scorers for the Sting. Sharon Manning tied the game at 48-48 with 15 minutes remaining but the Sparks answered with an 8-0 spurt. Moore and Stinson scored five points each during Charlotte’s ensuing 12-4 run. The Sting limited Los Angeles to eight points in its final 19 possessions.

Sophia Witherspoon and Kym Hampton scored 14 and 12 points respectively to lead New York to a 66-53 win over struggling Utah.

Liberty center Rebecca Lobo notched her 102nd straight victory. Lobo pulled down 10 rebounds but went 3 for 17 from the floor, scoring 8 points.

Asked to explain the streak, Lobo joked, “It’s not my shooting. The magic is my teammates. The only record that counts is 7-0” as the only undefeated team in the WNBA.
