Blast Kills One On Brazilian Jet
An in-flight explosion on a Brazilian jetliner Wednesday ejected one person nearly 8,000 feet to his death and injured six of the remaining passengers before the plane made an emergency landing.
What caused the explosion as the TAM airliner with 55 passengers aboard approached Sao Paulo was not known. Police said they were investigating the possibility of a bomb.
Fernando Caldeira de Moura, 38, was killed, said TAM vice president Luiz Eduardo Falco.
The explosion at 7,920 feet ripped a hole in the fuselage, causing a sudden drop in cabin pressure that “hurled Moura’s body and three of the aircraft’s seats out of the plane,” Falco said.
