Christian Gift Center/Evangel Leases Building On Sullivan Road
Christian Gift Center/Evangel Bookstore has moved from East Sprague to a new store near the Spokane Valley Wal-Mart.
Evangel signed a 5-year lease on the 4,500-square foot building at 615 N. Sullivan Road, said Christy Lee, manager of the store.
The store carries about 75 different categories of music and books, including various Bible translations.
The Christian center caters to local churches by selling a variety of religious supplies.
“We sell anything from the steeple on the church to the little pencil in the pew,” said Lee. “When it comes to supporting the church, we can get them anything.”
A grand opening celebration is planned for mid-September, when another Christian Gift Center/Evangel bookstore will open in Coeur d’Alene.
Christian Gift Center and Evangel Bookstore merged in January of 1996, creating a total of six stores in the Inland Northwest.
The company is among the top 100 Bible bookstores in the nation, with $2 million in annual sales, according to company reports.
Sta-Fit to run Liberty Lake club
Valley residents will soon have another place to get “pumped up.”
Athletic Club Properties LLC, a division of the Greenstone Corporation is developing the Liberty Lake Athletic Club at 23410 E. Mission. The club will open September 1.
Construction started in April on the $2.5 million building, which is being built by Garco Construction. The 29,000-square foot facility will be managed by Sta-Fit Athletic Clubs, but will not carry the Sta-Fit name.
The new club will play a viable role in the community, said Jim Frank, Greenstone president.
“When we look at Liberty Lake as an urban village, to have an athletic club and fitness center is a very critical element of the community,” Frank said.
About 20 people will work at the club. Current members of Sta-Fit will not have access to the Liberty Lake club, but Liberty Lake Athletic Club members will be able to work out at other Sta-Fit facilities.
All of the standard exercise equipment will be on hand, from weight stacks to cardiovascular machines. Special features will include a juice bar, tanning beds, aerobics and personal training.
“It’s going to be a hi-tech, well-run facility,” said Jeff Brannon, Sta-Fit president. A series of grand opening membership specials will be run during September, he said. A fun run is slated for August 16.
Monthly membership fees for the new athletic club will be $43 for an individual or $53 for a family, but rates can vary, Brannon said.
Valley Car Toys under construction
Car Toys is expanding into the Valley.
The Seattle-based chain, which specializes in car stereo systems, started building a new 5,500-square foot store three weeks ago on Sullivan Road just north of Sprague Avenue.
“It should be completed the first week of September,” said store manager Rich Mickey, who expects to hire about 12 employees for the Valley store. “It’s a totally different breed than anything you’ve ever seen in the Spokane area.”
It will be the second Car Toys store in Spokane. The other Car Toys is at 6709 N. Division on the North Side.
The company decided it was time to build a store in the Valley because of the retail boom expected once the Spokane Valley Mall opens, said Mickey.
Car Toys sells car stereos, amplifiers, CD players, cellular phones, and security systems. With the opening of the Valley store, the chain will have 17 stores in Washington and Oregon.
