Ken Schrader, who hasn’t won a Winston Cup race in six years, won his first pole in two years at New Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon.

Schrader led the qualifiers for Sunday’s Jiffy Lube 300 with a record 129.423 mph lap on the 1.058-mile oval.

Alex Zanardi drove to the provisional pole for the Medic Drug Grand Prix of Cleveland, wheeling a Target-Chip Ganassi Racing Reynard-Honda around the rough Burke Lakefront Airport temporary road course at 132.031 mph.

Short track expert Elliott Sadler set a track record to lead qualifying for the Advance Auto Parts 250 Busch Grand National stock car race at Myrtle Beach (S.C.) Speedway.

Sadler got his first pole of the season by circling the .538-mile oval at 99.196 mph, breaking the record of 98.595 set in 1992 by Jeff Gordon.

Jimmy Hensley reeled off a record qualifying lap to capture the pole position for today’s Link-Belt Construction Equipment 200, a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event in Louisville, Ky.

Hensley, driving a Dodge Ram for retired NASCAR star Richard Petty, lapped the track at 103.160 mph.
