Worker Dies In Fall From Carnival Ride

Compiled From Wire Services

A teenage amusement park worker was killed Friday night after apparently slipping and getting hit by a ride.

Jeffrey Chapman, 17, slipped and was struck by a swinging boat ride called “The Typhoon,” Sgt. Tim Spadler said. He was then pinned beneath the ride at Celebration Station amusement park.

Police said the ride showed no signs of mechanical failure.

In Seaside Heights, N.J., two men fell 10 to 30 feet off a ride at an amusement pier and landed on the beach, Detective Sgt. David Szalkowski said. The men fell from the Sky Ride, a ski lift-type ride that travels slowly over the beach.

A 21-year-old man who works for Casino Pier was in stable condition at a nearby hospital. A 55-year-old man who had been riding in a car with a child was being taken to the hospital. The child was unhurt, Szalkowski said. The cause of the accident was under investigation.
