Montana Inmate Still On The Loose

From Staff And Wire Reports

There was no sign Sunday of murderer Sherman Hawkins or the red GMC crew-cab prison pickup he escaped in on Saturday, Montana State Prison officials said.

Hawkins, 58, is described as Caucasian, 6 feet tall, weighing 200 pounds and having gray hair but is balding.

He is not believed to be armed but is considered dangerous, a prison press release said.

Hawkins was sentenced to life plus 37 years in 1973 for the murder of his first wife in Yellowstone County. He escaped in 1976 and received an additional three-year sentence.
