Police Shoot, Kill Man Wielding Ax

From Staff And Wire Reports

Police responding to a domestic dispute shot and killed a man who charged them with an ax.

The man was identified as Michael David Oakes, 30, of Vancouver, police said.

Oakes was shot once in the chest and died in front of his mother’s home, police said.

Witnesses said officers shouted at Oakes to drop the ax, but he didn’t.

The two officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure while an investigation is being conducted.
