Shadow Play Role Of Pawn Rooks Hand Spokane 4-1 Defeat In Tuneup For Divisional Playoffs

The Spokane Shadow suffered their second loss in two nights to USISL 3D Pro League competition, losing 4-1 to the Chico Rooks on Saturday night.

Spokane, a Premier League team, lost to the San Francisco Bay Seals 3-1 Friday night.

Chico’s first two goals were of an unusual variety.

On the first, Chico’s Thomas Silvas took the ball inside the box on the left side and attempted a shot. Spokane goalkeeper Josh Fouts made the save, deflecting the ball off teammate Stuart Saunders. But Saunders didn’t have time to react and the ball bounced into the Shadow’s goal at 2:10.

The second goal came at 4:15 after a long ball was sent up the field by the Chico defense to the top of the Spokane penalty box. Three Spokane defenders and Fouts came out to clear the ball, but instead punched it high into the air and Chico’s Luis Orellana sent it into the net.

Spokane’s goal came at the 87:00 mark when Ryan Edwards finished off a rebound off the foot of teammate Joe Ascolese.

Spokane (14-2 in division, 15-5 overall) comes home next weekend to host the divisional playoffs. The three other entrants are Yakima, Cascade and Bellingham.
